God Works

This past weekend I attended a women’s conference. I was quite pleasantly surprised by the conference. I am on the committee and well, I wasn’t holding out much hope for it being a good one.

I learned though that God works in all situations. Even situations you’d rather not be in. Not that I didn’t want to be there exactly, I just thought it’d be better if I was at home. But the conference was good, I mean it was really really good.

Sunday morning in Sunday school, we were in Romans 8. Isn’t it funny how God works everything to get your attention?

Romans 8:28 says that in all things God works….. . All things mean the good things that happen to us and it includes the bad things that happen to us. Nothing is outside the realm of His working or His ability to work.

It is not necessarily that God causes the bad things to become good things or to be used for good. But regardless of the good and bad in life, we can be assured God is at work.

That is where our trust should lie, in His working. That is comforting. Not in our eventual understanding of the why, not in seeing God work good in bad situations, but in knowing He works and He is working.

Nothing is outside of His ability to make our lives more like Himself.

Our hope and our comfort lies in God’s working–not in our lives being easy and good. It doesn’t matter the situation–good or bad–God works.

God’s work did not stop at creation. His creating work was done but He was not finished working. When His Son died on the cross and said “It is Finished”, His redeeming work was done but He was not done working.

There is nothing we can do or go through that God can not and will not use to bring Him glory. He will make sure He is glorified in every situation that affects our life.  It is His job to work for His glory, it is our job to work with Him, to trust Him in the hard times, the bad times. It is also our job to keep our eyes on Him and not on the “why’s”. We have to be okay with not ever knowing the reason why. But in trust to rest in Him and watch Him work.
