I just finished watching Stage 9 of THE Tour. Yes I am a few hours behind but I’ve been a very busy girl. What with laundry, replacing the television set we bought in 1997, lunch (Lays potato chips, anyone?), dishes and more laundry, I’ve been a bit slow to get the whole thing watched.
German rider, Tony Martin (riding for Omega-Pharma Quickstep) put in a phenomenal performance. He rode the individual time trial with a broken wrist and still managed to ride like the wind. His doctors have suggested, somewhat strongly I’m sure, that he abandon the race and concentrate on healing his wrist so he can perform in the Olympics.
Fabulous Fabian Cancellara, a Swiss rider on Radio Shack Nissan Trek, road his heart out. He had two very difficult days in the little mountains but he still managed to go out and give his time trial 110%. Everyone thought he would be the stage winner. But alas it wasn’t to be.
Team Sky rider, Christopher Froome came in with 22 seconds on Cancellara. Did he not know Fabian was supposed to win the stage? Ahh to be young…
Then the poop hit the fan so to speak. Or in other words, Bradley Wiggins, the man from Great Britain, team mate of Christopher Froome, wearer of the maillot jaune, and as of yet, a non-winner of any stage in THE Tour, came in. He was exhausted. He rolled in with the best time. He beat Cancellara! Unbelievable.
Tomorrow is the first rest stage of the 2012 Tour. I’m sure all the riders are anxious for that. Me? Not quite so much. My house, however, will love being cleaned from top to bottom.
I thought the Fabulous one had that stage all wrapped up. Gratz to him and his wife on their 2nd blessing 🙂
