I have a lot brewing in this old brain of mine. It’s a good thing. A really, really good thing. It means I’m alive on this frozen tundra I call home.
And by frozen I mean FROZEN. It is currently only about 25 degrees (Fahrenheit) below zero.
That’s not windchill, folks, that’s the actual temperature. Windchill is about 35-45 degrees below zero. Exposed skin can be frost bitten in as little as 5-10 minutes! Yikes!
I’m thinking it’s a good day to stay inside.
Except I really have to go out. It’s New Year’s Eve and that means our annual Family Finger Food Feast, a feast of food for your fingers. I am rather ill prepared for it. I haven’t been out of the house really since Sunday when we got home from church, the cupboard is about empty.
I don’t think the family would appreciate chicken, roast, hamburger, and a few celery sticks, a can of black olives for the feast. So out I must go. Or my cat will stage a revolt. You see, I’m also out of cat food except for what is in her bowl. But she freaks out when she can see one small, teeny-tiny, miniscule part of the bottom of her dish. And she won’t eat until we put more in the dish.
I also need to buy more paint. Not that we’re going to eat that in our 4F party tonight. I have a hallway, laundry room, bathroom, and bedroom to paint. As easy as it would be for me to just paint them all to match. I’m not going to. The hallway, bathroom, and laundry room will be this color:
It’s a very pale yellow. The master bedroom will be….
Your guess is as good as mine. I’m leaning towards either a very pale blue or tan.
Oh. I also need a light bulb.
Apparently I think I need to let everyone know my shopping list. I’m also going to be getting coffee..whole beans. Beanie bought me a new coffee grinder for Christmas. It’s great. But I haven’t been able to use it yet. The last time I bought coffee they ground it for me.
Speaking of Beanie. She’s practicing her ballet in the kitchen. I am taken back to when she was a baby. So difficult. She screamed all the time. Never slept. Which means I screamed all the time and never slept. I remember conversations like:
“Momma, I love you. Even though your eyes are green.”
and
“I know…I’m a short 4.”
and
“I’m not Beaner-McQueener! I just Beanie.”
The cute sayings have for the most part gone away, but the cute girl still lives on. I remember watching her race through the kitchen, full speed ahead, blond hair streaming behind her as she pinballed her way off the desk, cupboard, and kitchen island, finally shooting straight into her bedroom.
It’s a wonderful world, isn’t it?
On the blog later this week, another book review, a Paleo pumpkin scone recipe I’ve been working on perfecting, and maybe my Christmas wrap up.
I hope that no frostbite was involved in your outing yesterday! Keep warm and have a Happy New Year!

No frostbite whatsoever. Mr. FullCup drove to work to make sure that didn’t happen.

Happy New Year ( a few days late….;), it sounds like you guys are keeping plenty busy. How is the painting coming? Yes, Beanie is a special kid… she just lights up a room! Good luck with the painting, fix up… are you still planning on listing the house soon? (It’s so weird to me, the parallels between what we did 10 years ago and what you are doing… We listed our house in Denver the first week of January 2005. Hoping all is well there… take care.
