Kat is a cupcake baker stuck in a chocolate, strawberry and vanilla rut. It’s not that she wants to stay there, but her aunt, the owner of Sweetie Pies, is stuck and Kat lacks the willpower to sell some of her own cupcake flavors. Instead, she shares them with Lucas, the high school football coach of Bayou Bend and Kat’s best friend.

Lucas wants to boost Kat’s self-confidence so he secretly enters her in the next round of Cupcake Combat, where she will face competitors in a test to win a coveted prize, a year-long internship with Bloom, a cupcake bakery in New York. When her application is approved, she almost refuses to go to LA. She, of course, changes her mind and takes Lucas along for the week-long competition as her assistant.

Will she make it to the final round? Will she and Lucas finally get to talk about their true feelings for each other?

My Thoughts

I’m not sure how to review this book exactly. I have read this author before and loved her books. This one though seemed to fall short of the caliber I’ve come to expect from her.  I had a hard getting into the book. It is almost written more for a young adult audience, than an adult.  The characters acted more like children than adults in my opinion, so that could be why.

I loved the Scripture Betsy used and really loved that God seemed to be a focus for both Kat and Lucas. I also really liked that their friends were constantly pointing them back to Jesus.

But that could just be me. You should get the book and read it for yourself.
