Tricia Goyer was a teen mom. Her first pregnancy ended in abortion. Her second pregnancy ended with the birth of her son when she was an unwed 17-year-old high school senior. She knows about teen pregnancy and being a teen mom. She has written a book to give encouragement and hope to other teen moms.
That book is titled, Teen Mom, You’re Stronger than you think and is published by Zondervan. This book was previously published with the title Life Interrupted. This book attempts to offer encouragement to teen moms, it looks at their needs now, their need to be appreciated, their need to know their life is not at a dead-end, and their need to be loved. This book addresses all of those needs.
Now comes the difficult part of the review for this blogger. I was asked to be a part of the launch team for this book, and I honestly feel I should give this book a 5-star review, rave up and down about it. But it fell a little flat to me. The greatest need of a teen mom is not to be appreciated, not to know their life isn’t over. Their greatest need is Jesus. And while He does factor into the book in a few places, it could have, and in my opinion should have been so much more. It is this bloggers opinion there was far too much psycho-babble and far to little grace and forgiveness is ONLY found in Jesus and a personal relationship with Him. Parenting as a married adult is hard enough, parenting as an adult without Jesus has to be near impossible. I can’t imagine doing it as an unwed teen with Jesus.
I received a free copy of this book for the purpose of review. All opinions are my own.
